Summer Paddle on the Salmon Falls River - Starting at the Counting House Museum, So Berwick, ME

Sunday, August 5th, 3:00 -5:00pm 

Join us and our co-hosts, the Association for Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH) on a guided canoe/kayak trip down the Salmon Falls River. We will highlight points of interest that include SRC conservation lands on the tidal portion of the River, as well as places related to ship building, and Native American history.

We will depart from the boat launch by the Counting House Museum at 3:00pm and canoe down river to the Eliot Bridge boat launch, where there will be transportation back to the parking lot. Take a kayak or canoe, life preserver and water bottle.  All participants will be asked to sign a waiver before departing.

The cost is $5.00 per person. No cost for SRC and ARCH  members.

Dressing the Part: Creating an 18th Century Wardrobe

Historic role players, re-enactors, home sewers, and anyone else interested in period clothing are invited to attend “Dressing the Part: Creating an 18th Century Wardrobe” at the historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House in Rollinsford.

Presented by ARCH (the Association for Rollinsford Culture and History), this six-week series will begin on Thursday, March 8 from 7 to 9 pm with a lecture/demonstration on 18th century clothing presented by Tara Vose and Julia Roberts. The workshop will continue on subsequent Thursday evenings through April 12.

The series will focus on providing guidance in sewing reproduction 18th century garments for women, men or children. The workshop leaders will walk participants through the process of creating a period-appropriate historic outfit. Topics to be covered include selecting which garments to reproduce, advice on pattern and fabric selection and sources, sewing techniques, and choosing accessories to complete the outfit.

There is a registration fee of $15 ($10 for ARCH members). Additional costs will depend on patterns and fabrics selected by the participants. Halloween Party & Haunted House hosted by ARCH

The Association for Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH) will host an old fashioned Halloween party and haunted house on Sunday, October 30, from 5-9pm. The house will be decorated for Halloween with mildly scary scenes, appropriate for school age children. Activities will include: ghost stories read aloud upstairs in the spooky attic, a well seasoned fortune teller, outdoor games, like toss the ring on the witches' hat, toss the bones in the cauldron, and douse the candle in the jack-o-lantern! Refreshments will be available, and all are urged to come in costume. Admission is free, but donations or ARCH memberships are greatly appreciated. ARCH ANNOUNCES ANNUAL AUCTION AND DINNER with Wine Raffle

The Association for Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH) will hold its annual auction on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Cochecho Country Club in Dover, NH from 6-10pm. The event will feature auctions, hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and buffet dinner. There will be a diverse selection of items donated by local businesses, artisans and individuals in the silent and live auctions. Among the exciting items so far, are: an amethyst and diamond necklace donated by Naser Diamonds in Dover, and, donated by a board member, a week at the Sandrift Club in Naples, Fl.!!

New this year: The ARCH Wine (and wine refrigerator) Raffle! Start a wine collection or add to your own wine cellar with 25+ bottles of fine wine AND an 8-bottle wine refrigerator. Tickets for the wine raffle are $10 each, and are available in advance. You need not be present to win, but you must be 21 years or older to participate. Tickets can be purchased prior to Sept. 24, at the Col. Paul Wentworth during our open house hours on Sundays from 1-4:00pm. and at the auction. Proceeds from the auctions and raffle will provide essential support for continuation of the educational programs at the Wentworth House.

“Bloomers, Bonnets, and Bustles"

“Bloomers, Bonnets, and Bustles", an exhibit of antique clothing, will be on display once again this Sunday, August 28, 1-4:00pm during the open house at the Colonel Paul Wentworth House in Rollinsford.

The exhibit will feature clothing worn by members of the Abbott/Goodwin family of Massachusetts from the 1820s through the 1920s. On loan from Jean Demetracopoulos of South Berwick, the extensive collection includes a silk wedding gown, many other complete garments of silk and lace, petticoats, bodices, baby gowns, children’s dresses, shirtwaists, a set of early stays, bonnets, parasols, and yes, bloomers.

Admission is by donation, and memberships in ARCH are strongly encouraged and appreciated.
