Calling All Cargo named Volunteer Of The Year

Calling all Cargo is honored and thankful for receiving "Volunteer Of The Year" from the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce.

A handful of residents and businesses were recognized for their unparalleled dedication to the community when the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of its 2012 Citizen, Business, Volunteer and Nonprofit of the Year awards.

Such awards are given each year to individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions of time and energy to make the Garrison City community a better place for all.

The Volunteer of the Year was awarded to moving and storage company Calling All Cargo. DF Richard General Manager Rick Card, who sponsored the volunteerism award, recognized the moving company for going above and beyond its professional capacity to make a difference in the lives of Dover residents.

"While their motto is 'Changing Lives, One Move at a Time,' I would contest that they change lives one day at a time," said Card.

Throughout the past year, the staff at Calling All Cargo has donated its moving services for many city-related events. Card noted the moving company is the behind-the-scenes, unsung hero of events such as Apple Harvest Day and the annual Festival of Trees event at City Hall.

They have provided services for special needs children at Woodman Park Elementary School and helped raise money for prostate cancer by growing mustaches throughout the month of November. Most recently, Calling All Cargo has offered to take old Christmas lights off the hands of residents, which the company will then have recycled and turn over a portion of the profit to benefit veterans who have been injured while serving their country.

"Calling All Cargo moved the Chamber into this building," said Card. "They moved the New Hampshire Children's Museum to Dover, and most importantly they have moved families in need of help through the Dover Women's Aid fund."

Card noted that anyone with a truck can help move furniture around, but that the staff at Calling All Cargo do far more for the Dover community than picking things up and putting them down.

Owner Mike Carlton accepted the award for his company, thanking the community for its unwavering support and noting that he plans to have Calling All Cargo be a part of Dover for many years to come.

Calling All Cargo is Calling For Your Holiday Lights

This holiday season Calling All Cargo has teamed up with Brass Knuckle Scrappers to raise money for The Wounded Warrior Project.

What we are doing is simple. We are collecting old/damaged strings of holiday lights. Instead of throwing them in a landfill, we are "scrapping" them with the help of Brass Knuckle Scrappers. A percentage of the proceeds from the collection will be donated.

If you are not familiar with the Wounded Warrior Project, realize it is near and dear to our hearts. The Wounded Warrior Project exists to honor and empower wounded warriors who incurred service-connected injuries on or after September 11 2001. Their vision is, "To foster the most successful, well adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nations history." Besides being a Marine Veteran owned and operated company, Calling All Cargo has close friends that are currently being helped by the Wounded Warrior Project.

We will be placing holiday light collection bins all over New Hampshire to make it easy to donate. So please, don't throw away your strings of broken holiday lights. Donate them.

Collection bins will be placed at the Dover Chamber of Commerce, Calefs, InMotion Chiropractic, Barrington Transfer Station, The Wooden Spoon, Sheilah's Deli & Market, Indoor Ascent, Duston's Bakery and more to be named soon!
