The City of Dover's cooling center will remain open today, Friday, June 22, for residents seeking relief from the heat. The cooling center is located in the McConnell Center cafeteria. The cooling center will remain open today, Thursday, until 4 p.m., and will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Residents should enter the McConnell Center using Door #7 on the St. Thomas Street side of the building. Additional cooling stations will open, if needed.
The combination of heat and high humidity can put people at risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The National Weather Service recommends wearing light-weight, loose-fitting clothing when possible, drinking plenty of water, staying in an air-conditioned environment and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
