Dover City Council proclaims Scott Myers Day

At its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, the Dover City Council declared Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, as Scott Myers Day.

Former Mayor Scott Myers served four terms as mayor of Dover before leaving the post in July.

According to Mayor Dean Trefethen, a number of residents asked the City Council to host an event to honor and thank the former mayor for nearly eight years of service to the community.

The event will be held on Scott Myers Day, Aug. 20, at The Works in Somersworth, from 3-7 p.m. The use of the facility is courtesy of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Those wishing to attend can register at the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce website, www.dovernh.org.

This family friendly event is open to all. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks will be served. A ceremony to officially thank former Mayor Myers will be held during the event.

The cost of the celebration is covered by generous donations from several Dover businesses and residents, including Centrix Bank, the law firm of Wyskiel, Boc, Tillinghast and Bolduc, Federal Savings Bank in Dover, and Dover businessman and City Councilor Dennis Ciotti.

At the Aug. 10, 2011, City Council meeting, Myers was presented with the proclamation declaring Scott Myers Day, a chair and a plaque.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS: Scott Myers was elected Mayor of Dover four times, an accomplishment unequaled in modern times, and unlikely to be duplicated in the foreseeable future; and

WHEREAS: Scott Myers, as the Mayor of Dover, served the citizens of the City tirelessly and unselfishly, attending meetings all over the State, and particularly representing the City before various bodies in Concord; and

WHEREAS: Scott Myers, as the Mayor of Dover, participated in many community and civic events and in the process became well known as Dover’s ambassador, and in becoming the “People’s Mayor” touched many people in the City through his many activities; and

WHEREAS: The Citizens of Dover and the City Council are grateful of Scott Myers’ many efforts and wish to show him how much it has been appreciated.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and City Council do hereby proclaim:
