Dover – Christina Mukankaka, Credit Analyst at Federal Savings Bank, was recently elected to the Board of Directors to the Dover Adult Learning Center of Strafford County, located in the McConnell Community Center in Dover.

Federal Savings Bank Awards $7,000 in Scholarships

Dover – Federal Savings Bank recently presented seven, $1,000 scholarships to local graduating high school seniors. The Federal Savings Bank scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors attending an accredited college or university on a full-time basis who reside in the communities in which the Bank serves.

This year’s recipients included: Aneesa Winn, Kyle Brown, Lindsey Colbath, Rachel Ameduri, Robert George, Megan Williamson, and Trevor Aube. Representatives from local high schools selected the recipients based on the Bank’s defined criteria, which included community involvement and leadership.

“These students have excelled in the classroom, but more importantly, they have made a difference in their local communities through their volunteer efforts,” said FSB President and CEO, James J. Longtime FSB Employee Marge Dore Announces Retirement

Marge Dore, a 26-year veteran at Federal Savings Bank has announced her plans to retire at the end of the month. Marge started working at Federal Savings Bank in 1985 and although she has held a number of positions, working with customers at the teller line has proven to be most fulfilling.

“Marge has been a true asset to the bank and will be greatly missed by the employees and especially her customers,” said James J. O’Neill, Jr., President and CEO. “Marge truly exemplifies the very essence of the Bank’s mission and on behalf of the entire bank, we wish her well in her future endeavors,” he added.

In her tenure, Marge has had many accomplishments, but her most defining moment was in 1990 during the Bank’s 100th anniversary, when she won the very first Employee of the Year Award for her commitment to the Bank through her strong work ethic and exceptional personal service.

Several Federal Savings Bank employees were recognized for their service at the bank’s Annual Employee meeting held February 16th at The Oaks in Somersworth.

President and CEO, James J. O’Neill, Jr., thanked everyone for a very successful year and commented that 2012, with the group’s continued hard work, is positioned to be even more successful. “With everything community banks are facing regarding regulatory reform, FSB remains a strong institution with a very bright future,” he remarked.

Employees recognized with 5-year service awards included: Christine Baker, John Crisp, Mary Ham, Paul Bergeron, and Deb Cuthbertson. Recognized for 10-years of service were: Carrie Keech, Laurie Abbott, and Andi Brunner. Recognized for 15-years of service were: Leni Redden and Sue Brown. Paula Blanchette was recognized for 20 years of service. A special award was presented to Judy Lovely for her 25 years of service. Marge Dore was also recognized for 26 years of service.

Perfect attendance awards were presented to: Jason Dionne, Janet Woithe, Jay Doyle, Chris Morin, Marge Dore, and Cassy Cox. President O’Neill also recognized the Bank’s Relay for Life team captain, Kelly Glennon and The United Way Committee team members, Paul Bergeron, Christina Mukankaka, Brenda Turner, John Crisp, and Barbara Pitcher. Employees were presented with a bouquet of gourmet sugar cookies and a restaurant gift card.

Kelly Rees Named FSB Employee of the Year

Federal Savings Bank President and CEO, James J. O’Neill, Jr. proudly named Kelly Rees employee of the year at the Bank’s recent employee meeting held February 16th at The Oaks in Somersworth.

Rees, who has worked for FSB since 2008, serves as Commercial Loan Assistant. Rees was recognized for her strong initiative and hard work ethic. Vice President and Risk Management Officer, Kelly Glennon, who nominated Rees for the award, pointed out her positive attitude and willingness to help others. “Kelly’s energy is infectious and her positive attitude is just what we would expect from all our employees,” Glennon said. “She is courteous, professional, and motivated to take on new challenges,” Glennon said.

This past year, Rees completed the Northern New England School of Banking, eagerly volunteered to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event, and organized a team fundraiser that singlehandedly raised over $200. “Kelly’s commitment to making a difference is inspiriting and aligns perfectly with the Bank’s mission,” Glennon added.

Each year, Rees uses a week of her personal vacation time to volunteer at Comfort Zone Camp, a bereavement camp for children who have lost a parent, sibling, or family member. Kelly takes time away from her own family to volunteer and serve as a counselor, providing one-on-one mentorship. “I can’t imagine the strength it must take to volunteer in this capacity and I applaud Kelly for truly putting others first and selflessly opening her heart to these kids in need,” Glennon said.

Along with the Employee of the Year Award, Federal Savings Bank is giving Kelly dinner and a weekend away for two, as well as a cash donation to the charity of her choice. She plans to make the donation to Comfort Zone Camp.

Federal Savings Bank President and CEO, James J. O’Neill, Jr., is pleased to announce the promotions of Kristen Collins, Tiffany Melanson and Kelly Glennon.

Kristen Collins has been named Vice President and Director of Human Resources. Collins is responsible for managing the Bank’s HR functions including employee benefits and compliance with federal and state laws. She is a graduate of the University of Maine and recently completed the Northern New England School of Financial Studies. Collins is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Seacoast Human Resource Association.

Tiffany Melanson has been promoted to the position of Marketing Manager and will be responsible for managing the Bank’s marketing and public relations initiatives including image and branding campaigns and corporate donations. Melanson is a graduate of the University of Maine, the Northern New England School of Financial Studies and is currently enrolled in the American Bankers Association’s School of Bank Marketing and Management.

Kelly Glennon will assume the role of Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management and will work to develop a comprehensive process for assessing, identifying, monitoring and reducing pertinent business risks that could impact the Bank’s short and long term goals. Glennon has worked for Federal Savings Bank for 15 years is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the National Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania.

Federal Savings Bank held its annual meeting at the Bank’s main office in Dover on January 26, 2012.

During the meeting, the Board of Directors thanked Patricia Barbour for her service as 2011 Chairman and voted Edward Lemos, VMD as 2012 Chairman of the Board and M. Lou McGrew as Vice-Chairman. The Board of Directors also voted to elect M. Lou McGrew, Dana Lynch and Patricia Barbour for additional three-year terms. The Bank’s Board of Directors includes Edward Lemos, VMD, James Schulte, Dana C. Lynch, Richard Houghton, James Jalbert, Arthur Nickless, Robert Steele, Michael Bolduc, Lou McGrew, James J. O’Neill, Jr. and Patricia Barbour.

President and CEO, James J. O’Neill, Jr., Jr. thanked Peter Hamblett for his 17 years of service to Federal Savings Bank. Hamblett retired from the Bank’s Board of Directors at the end of December. “Pete led this institution through some of the most challenging economic times and navigated the waters of an unprecedented period of regulatory change. The Bank’s great success over the last couple decades is directly attributable to Pete’s knowledge and strong leadership,” said O’Neill. Pete was thanked for his service during a reception at the Three Chimneys Inn on January 25.

The Bank will be recognizing employees at its annual employee meeting taking place in February and looks forward to releasing the 2011 annual report in the first quarter.

Federal Savings Bank Sponsors Children’s Museum New Years Eve Celebration

Federal Savings Bank is once again partnering with the Children’s Museum of NH to present the annual Family New Years Eve Celebration.

There is no better way to ring in the New Year with family and friends of all ages than at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s annual New Year’s Eve Celebration. The museum will be open to the public on Saturday, December 31st from 10 am – 3 pm. Attendees will create festive party hats, write wishes for the new year on flying blimps and host “countdowns to midnight” at 11 am, 12:30 pm and 2 pm. Local Businesses Partner to Provide Fuel Assistance - Encourage Others to Do the Same

The company names are synonymous with community giving, so it should be no surprise that DF Richard and Federal Savings Bank have joined forces to provide additional fuel assistance to individuals and families in need this winter.

Betsey Andrews Parker, Executive Director of Community Action Partnership of Strafford County (CAP), was saddened to learn that funding for the organization's fuel assistance program would be cut this year. "The demand has increased while the funding has decreased, which means families in need are receiving less assistance and due to eligibility requirements CAP has had to turn some people away," she said.

Upon reading about the shortfall of fuel assistance funding, Federal Savings Bank immediately took notice and offered a donation to CAP, but they didn't stop there. They also contacted DF Richard, a locally owned heating oil and propane business who has been a strong supporter of CAP. Together the businesses are contributing $3,000 for CAP's Low Income Heat and Energy Assistance Program. "It is our pleasure to provide assistance to people in need. This challenging economy has impacted so many families in the community and while we are saddened to know of their hardships, we are pleased to take this opportunity to give back," according to Bob Richard, DF Richard President.

Just in time for the Holiday season, Federal Savings Bank is pleased to announce the introduction of a Holiday essay contest for younger banking enthusiasts.

Gundalow Company Receives Support from Federal Savings Bank

Portsmouth – Federal Savings Bank recently pledged $10,000 to The Gundalow Company for the construction of a new gundalow that is currently being built on the grounds of Strawberry Banke.

Since 2002, the Gundalow Company has used the Captain Edward H. Adams – a replica modeled after the last gundalow to carry cargo on the Bay – to provide “dockside” programs to more than 100,000 visitors. But the Adams is too authentic to comply with modern U.S. Coast Guard safety requirements. Recognizing the need to get students of all ages afloat to genuinely connect with their rivers and bay, the Gundalow Company has begun construction on a new gundalow. Looking and feeling authentic, it will have the safety features and structural integrity required by the U.S. Coast Guard for passenger-carrying vessels.

Kristen Collins Joins Federal Savings Bank
