Tickets for the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce’s Tenth Annual “Sweep into Spring” Sweepstakes, underwritten by Federal Savings Bank, are available at the Chamber Visitor Center at 550 Central Avenue or by calling 603/742-2218.
The event takes place on Friday, April 29th, 2011 at the Dover Arena on Portland Avenue in Dover, with doors opening at 6:30pm. To celebrate the tenth anniversary, this years themed is “Ten,” and features themed entertainment, a silent auction, a sampling from over a dozen local restaurants and caterers, as well as a 1 in 250 chance of winning $10,000 in the grand prize drawing, and a 1 in 25 chance of winning at least $200.
Each ticket costs $100 and admits 2 people to the event. Ticket holders need not be present to win one of the many cash prizes. In addition to the Sweepstakes portion of the event, guest can bid on dozens of items during a silent auction that features everything from trips and getaways to themed gift baskets and compete packages for Mother’s Day, Lawn & Garden Care, Local Restaurant Sampler, Home Improvement, Salon & Spa Treatments, Health & Fitness and many more .
“We look forward to putting another new spin on what has been a very successful event for us in the past,” commented Chamber Marketing Manager Aaron Wensley. “There will be enough going on to keep people entertained, even if they’re out of the running for the grand prize.”
This year’s “Ten” theme will offer attendees a look at the Top Ten of just about everything imaginable: movies, music and television shows; sports and sporting events; geography; history; and a variety of off-the-wall categories that are sure to entertain. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the theme with their attire, but costumes are not required.
“The costuming will be a little different this year,” notes Event Committee Chair Toby Arkwell of RW Insurance. “The idea is to get people to be creative, and to use the “Ten” theme to spark ideas. For example, musicians like the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson might be in one of the Top Ten lists, while characters from popular TV shows might come from another. Similarly, people might come dressed as bowling pins, or Ten Little Indians, or the Ten Commandments.”
