(Dover, NH – February 21, 2011) – The board of directors at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire has named Justine Roberts of Cambridge, MA the museum’s new Executive Director. Justine was chosen for the position following an extensive national search and she succeeds museum founder Denise Doleac, who resigned as Executive Director at the end of 2010.
As a principal in the award-winning museum architecture, planning and exhibit design firm Gyroscope, Inc. for the past 8 years, Justine Roberts brings a wealth of strategic leadership skills to the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. She has managed high-level projects for children’s museums and science centers across the country and around the world. Working closely with museum leaders and stakeholders, Justine has taken major exhibition initiatives through the strategic planning process to creative development and staff training. She has also been instrumental in identifying opportunities for joint initiatives and partnerships for her clients, and establishing systems for cooperation and communication.
Justine has worked on a number of original research projects to track trends and leadership opportunities. She often writes for professional publications and speaks at national and regional museum conferences. She began her career at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, and has also worked at Leapfrog as a senior producer for an interactive book line and at Scholastic, Inc. as a producer for multi-media products and brand management for television and print properties. Justine holds a Masters in Education: Museum Leadership from the Bank Street College of Education in New York, and she earned a Bachelors degree with high honors from Oberlin College in Ohio.
“Our board and staff are excited to welcome such an accomplished museum learning professional to lead the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire into its next phase of development,” stated Mike Kenison, chairman of the Museum’s board of directors. “After reviewing and meeting many candidates, Justine was our unanimous choice to build upon the strong foundation established by Denny Doleac. Justine’s expertise in strategic planning, exhibit design and family learning make her the ideal leader to build long-term sustainability for the museum by implementing innovative ideas that align with the museum’s core values.”
“I am so looking forward to beginning my work at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire,” said Justine. “The museum already has a solid base of creative exhibits, programs and partnerships, and I hope to enhance all of those strengths and raise the profile of the organization with a wide variety of audiences. My focus is on building relationships and implementing changes that will make the museum stronger and more responsive to the constituencies it serves.”
