Project SEARCH

For 30 years, Dover High has been a part of a gifted and talented program that is run through the University of New Hampshire, called Project SEARCH.  Jessica Bonello, a Social Studies teacher at Dover High School, has worked with this program for 13 years and does not want to see it go.  The school board has recently voted to cut Dover's participation in Project SEARCH due to budget constraints.  This means 17 students from Dover will not be able to take part in the district's only program for gifted students.

The goal of Project SEARCH is to expose advanced students to topics that they would not normally see in the high school curriculum.  It provides an on-campus, intellectually challenging experience for motivated students.  Twice a month, seacoast students attend a lecture at UNH.  After, they attend a discussion group that is led by a grad student.  As a bonding experience at the beginning of the year, Dover High hosts all two hundred participating students at their ropes course.

As you can tell, this is truly a special program for everyone involved.  Tuition is approximately $250 per student.  Jessica Bonello, on behalf of Dover High School, is asking for a donation to Dover's gifted and talented program.  The goal is to raise $4,000, so that Program SEARCH can continue to foster positive attitudes toward the exploration of new and stimulating ideas through the exposure to presentations and subsequent group meetings through which they can hone their discussion skills.  Any donation to Dover High will help keep this very important program running for 17 gifted students in Dover.  If you have any questions, contact Jessica Bonello at j.bonello@dover.k12.nh.us or call (603)516-6971.
