Collaborative project showcases artists from across the state
Portsmouth – On Thursday, April 7th at 7:00PM, the public is invited to join Great Bay Community College as they present the opening of their Spring art exhibit, “Vernal Expressions.”
The exhibit will feature a collection of work from local New Hampshire artists that depicts the welcoming of the Spring Season. The exhibit runs from April 7th through May 27th. Artwork will be displayed at the college’s gallery located at the newly renovated first floor entryway.
According to Annette Cohen, Professor of Fine Art and Digital Design at Great Bay and Director of the gallery project, the exhibit features the work of nine artists and includes a collection of media ranging from watercolor to quilting. “Our new Spring exhibit”, notes Cohen, “presents a delicious riot of color and light as it is observed in nature. Each artist interprets the subject matter like it is a gift to the senses.” The gallery is open during regular college hours and is free to the public. At the opening event on April 7th, refreshments will be served.
Featured artists and their areas of specialty include Ken Fellows, watercolors, Linda Gebhart, watercolors, Glenna Evans; photography, Dorine M. Gross, paintings, Ken Harvey; photography, Nancy Davis Johnson, watercolors, Diane Minuti, oil painting, Robert Richardson, painting and Nancy Morgan, fabric paintings.
Themed shows in the gallery will rotate every two months. A series of exhibits scheduled through December include photography, solo works, quilts and non-traditional hanging artwork.
A student exhibit is also in the works. There is currently an open call for submission of artwork. Interested artists should contact Annette Cohen at acohen@ccsnh.edu or 603-427-7665.
