PCA Math Team Wins League Championship

DOVER, NH — High school students at Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover brought home the Math League Championship trophy and qualified for the State Meet. This year, the PCA “mathletes” faced stiff competition in the league, which is comprised of Epping, Newmarket, Oyster River, Sanborn, Raymond, St. Thomas, and Coe-Brown, in addition to PCA. The math team won several of the year’s six meets. The most recent win in March brought them enough points for the season to carry home the trophy.

This year, in addition to veterans Eric Baker, Leah Pervere, Ai Tran, Scott Ankiewicz, Niko Townsend, and Emily Scire, the team gained newcomers Annie Hur, Olivia Baker, Abra Roberts, Hodong Choi, and David Lee. The teammates also took second place in their division at the State Meet at Plymouth State College on March 23.

The local league meets are comprised of four individual categories, in which two team members may compete, as well as a team category, in which three members work together to solve the three problems. By virtue of their first place in their local league, the PCA team now qualifies for an invitation to the regional meet in April in Canton, MA.

Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover is located at 20 Seaborne Drive, Dover, NH.
