PCA Students Shine at Science Fair

DOVER, NH — 170 students competed in the Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover Annual Science Fair Tuesday, April 19. Students in grades 9 through 12 displayed their research projects and presented their findings to the judges throughout the day. Parents and friends attended the open house that evening to see the work and celebrate the winners.

A team of 12 representatives from the community, who work in science-related fields, judged each project. Criteria included how well students followed the scientific method, level of difficulty, how knowledgeable they were as they presented to the judges, and how well the experiment was designed.

Students began the process six months ago by submitting proposals for their hypothesis, writing research papers to demonstrate their knowledge of the chosen topic, as well as, experimenting and revising procedures to complete their presentation.

“As we work to prepare our students for life beyond high school, an education in science is essential to their success,” said Beverly Shevenell, Upper School science teacher. “Participating in science fair encourages hands-on training and cultivates skills that will guide them in their future career choices.”
