DOVER, NH — Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover presents “Cinderella” Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for the matinee showing and 6:30 p.m. for the evening performances. Little girls who attend dressed as their favorite princess, may take part in a princess parade during intermission.
Adapted for the stage, the timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity. The hearts of children and adults alike will surely soar when the slipper fits. The production features a cast and crew of 40 students under the direction of Grace Thorsen, with musical direction by John MacLeod.
Laura Egan of York, ME, Tim Lagoy of Pembroke, NH, and Abbie Sheedy of South Berwick, ME head the cast as Cinderella, Prince Christopher and the Fairy Godmother. Other lead players include Rachel Mynczywor of Auburn, NH as the wicked Stepmother and Joseph Stevens of Rochester, NH as Lionel, The Royal Herald.
“Cinderella” is the musical adaptation of the fairy tale by Charles Perrault. It is the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical written for television. It was originally broadcast live in 1957 with Julie Andrews in the title role. It was later remade for television with Leslie Ann Warren starring in the 1965 version and Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother headlining in 1997.
This production will be presented at the gymnasium stage at Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover, 20 Seaborne Drive, Dover, NH.
